        Initially, this alert system was designed exclusively for medical organizations to monitor inpatients and patients treated at home. It effectively notified doctors of potential serious illnesses and complications, allowing them to catch diseases in their early stages and avoid severe consequences for patients. The system identifies and analyzes user data according to predefined criteria, triggering alerts to medical professionals when specific events occur.

        The criteria were based on matching the conditions of multiple patient records, which meant that the system had to analyze **thousands of patients’ records**. А **configurable record processing system** was implemented, where all patient records are processed and analyzed, and all necessary data for each alert is calculated. The results obtained are stored in a database, from which medical professionals can quickly obtain information on whether a particular alert has worked for a patient or not. This system is based on a queue and this ensures that **all data will be processed**, and if a technical error occurs, all data processing would be paused and support engineers will be notified about the problem. <br/>
        As the number of complications and diseases defined grew, the system was upgraded to send **over 30 different types of alerts**: from severe pain alerts and changes in them to medication side effects. The system has further evolved to include notifications for patients about whether they add new records to the app or not, and now the alerts system is an integral part of an overall notification system (similar to Duolingo, but not as persistent as Duolingo). The app's customers are also **medical organizations and insurance companies**, and keeping user information secure is important to them, so the company that developed **the app passed a risk assessment** and received **SOC2 Type 2 certification**.

        The implementation of the alerts system has led to significant results, as outlined below:<br/>
        * **A monitoring system** was created for medical organizations. Its main task was to save patients' lives and reduce the risks of serious complications and disease courses. The system effectively monitored patients' health and optimized treatment.
        * The alert system was **profitable for health insurance companies** because their clients underwent simpler and cheaper procedures in the early stages of illness, saving money. Also, insurance companies did not lose customers because their customers did not die from misdiagnosis, late treatment or procedures.
        * Anonymous medical data is valuable for **scientific research**. The introduction of a data analysis and storage system made it possible for the first time to obtain a large and detailed dataset updated in real time by patients themselves. Scientists and doctors can create research papers and articles based on this data and raise citations and increase the prestige and popularity of the clinic.
        * The system's efficiency and advantages make it possible to find **new clients among medical organizations of other specialties**, such as psychologists and other target groups with sufficient budget.
        * The system became **the basis for patient notifications** and other integrations related to the application and user inputs. This functionality is easy to expand and scale.

An alert system for possible critical diseases for a medical startup

        In 2020, the company faced the need to comply with the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) law, which required website content and educational materials to meet **certain accessibility criteria**. Compliance with this law became important for several reasons:<br/>
        * First, having a VPAT (Voluntary Product Accessibility Template) certificate of compliance showed educational institutions that **the materials were adapted for learning disabled people**, which directly affects the sales of educational services.
        * Second, **non-compliance could lead to lawsuits and large fines** for companies whose resources are not adapted to meet accessibility criteria. According to ADA Site Compliance, 4,630 ADA-related lawsuits were filed in 2023, with e-commerce sites accounting for 82% of those lawsuits.

        First, a small sample of unique content pages was audited with Aptara to see which accessibility criteria were problematic. The **most complex pages with the maximum number of used tools and components** were chosen for this task. This allowed us to understand what needs to be created from scratch and what needs to be refined to meet the requirements. However, the criteria that could be checked automatically (e.g. using axe DevTools extension) were only a third of the criteria, the rest had to be checked manually.

        As a result, **more than 1000 unique content pages** were redesigned on the criteria of site appearance, page navigation and the use of special tools for people with disabilities, such as the screen reader (like NVDA for Windows and VoiceOver for macOS).<br/>
        Accessibility criteria also affect how content for the computer should look, namely it should have **a clear structure of headings and subheadings, alternative text for multimedia attachments** and more. These are important requirements for content creators who need the right tools. To this end, tools for editors have been improved with new components needed to increase accessibility, simplify their work and reduce site maintenance costs. We updated **existing components that create headings, lists or other text elements and add multimedia (images and videos) with alternative text and description** for blind users. This increased understanding of page content for special programs (for example, screen readers). **New components on accessibility criteria and requirements** for websites were also created: these are complex components for creating a particular block of content on a page.

        Our client, a law firm, needs to process a massive amount of documents to write a legal opinion for insurance company compensation. Previously, to do this, attorneys had to manually review hundreds of pages of insurance claims, police reports, medical records and other handwritten notes (about 250 pages of PDF files per case on average), which was time-consuming and often resulted in errors.<br/>
    In this case study, we will describe the development of an artificial intelligence (AI)-based tool that made it faster and easier **to process information in insurance claims** into a consistent and concise legal opinion.

        The first idea of implementing the tool was actually a straightforward solution to the problem: asking ChatGPT for the entire result at once. However, this approach **turned out to be impossible** because of the huge amount of mixed information (we recall that it is about 250 PDF pages of handwritten medical and police reports, conditions of the incident and testimony). Because of this, ChatGPT can't distinguish groups of topics and be specific about each of them. Therefore, we decided to **divide the task** and generate the text summary for each topic separately.<br/>
        Following this, we decided to divide the task into several threads and assigned it to **five specialized assistants** who were tailored to their needs. These assistants were given the **following context**:<br/>
        * **Examples of work** that attorneys have done by hand, with the widest possible range of outcomes and combinations in the results;
        * A **decision template** clearly showing the order of the conclusions in the file;
        * **Additional information** about special cases that the assistant needs to pay attention to.<br/>

        It is important to note that the assistant should repeatedly point out the importance of one or another aspect in order to improve the quality of the results.<br/>
	    At the initial stage, **we created the assistants themselves** that allowed us to take some general prompts. Then we started to **refine the prompts for the assistants** we made so that they give more accurate results. That’s why we decided to ask about a particular aspect in each query to get the desired result. However, this approach was not quite ideal and sometimes there were problems where the result was not obtained and the assistant was difficult to convince that it was wrong. In such cases, we had to reload the chat through the API to initialize a new session.<br/>
	    It is also worth mentioning the iterative approach to creating such AI assistants. If the assistant lacks some knowledge, it is necessary **to manually find some data from a set of documents** and other systems and add it to the task description, thus improving the context and prioritizing. Sometimes it is even necessary to **insert the same information into the prompt**, thus showing the importance of some knowledge that should not be missed.<br/>
	    The accuracy of the results also depends on the format of the answer to be asked to the assistant. This seems to be a standard practice already, but it is quite useful for this type of problem.
        </div>
        <div title="Result">
        As a result of five assistants' work, we got a **structured text with a list of conclusions and important results** highlighted in bold.<br/>
	    Processing one set of documents for one case through OpenAPI costs about **$3-4 USD** and significantly saves the attorney's time to read 250 pages of text. Our solution highlights important aspects of the case, and the attorney can check the accuracy of the conclusion made by the AI tools and easily supplement it if necessary. Our solution has accelerated the work of attorneys **by 1.5 times**.

We can use, for example, the Amazon Deals service to collect the most favorable and interesting offers: it shows which products are currently discounted and for which product referrals can get the maximum benefit.<br/>
	    The task was to develop an algorithm or method that would allow us **to create a lot of simple and uniform texts** *(about 100 texts per week)*. We also discovered how well an AI can handle such a task.<br/>

        Writing 100 review articles in a week requires a large monetary outlay, so we decided to use ChatGPT, but this approach has **several problems** that took a significant amount of time to complete:<br/>
        * **Creating texts** by working with ChatGPT **in a question-and-answer format turned out to be disadvantageous**, as it is important to get all the necessary data in one query.
        * From the previous point, the **prompt becomes more complex**, and as a result, the neural network may move away from the required text structure. This requires the clearest possible instructions of what the text structure will be. It should have **a good headline and a convenient response format**: a product description in a couple of sentences and a brief explanation why this product is useful to the customer. That’s why the first thing we did was adjusting the prompt to generate text with the required structure.
        * ChatGPT had a problem with **adding the correct link to the right product** from the Amazon catalog without changing it. This also took some time and writing clear instructions. The last problem that is still being worked on is the tone of voice of the neural network that generates the texts. The results were filled with excessive praise of the product and filled with cliched vocabulary.<br/>

        These tasks were worked on in co-operation with the product team. An administrative panel was created for them so that they could experiment with the introductory part of the prompts needed to customize the tone of voice. Developers focused on creating clear instructions related to the structure of the response and automating the results checking so that low-quality texts with incorrect structure would not be allowed to be published on the website.
        </div>

        After experiments with integrating OpenAI tools we created **an automated solution** that can help with writing a lot of simple and uniform content, which started to earn thousands of dollars a week for the media company. Of course, it takes a huge amount of traffic to make that kind of money, but it was there. After implementing this tool, employees can now write **about 100 article reviews per week**, as well as handle more complex tasks. This case study perfectly shows how a media company can make money on new technologies and, in particular, on AI tools.

        At first, the project used **custom code in Drupal 6**, but it wasn't very good at protecting data. The code had lots of weaknesses and couldn't easily handle new features, which we needed to meet the insurance companies' requirements.<br/>
        So, the first thing we did to make it more secure was **to redo the system using microservices in Symfony**, a strong PHP framework known for its security. Microservices let developers work on different parts independently, keeping everything up-to-date, which makes the whole system more reliable.<br/>
        The second step was **to set up rules to make sure our team followed all the right steps**. We followed rules based on **HIPAA (in the US) and PIPEDA (in Canada)** laws for companies that deal with personal data. We also improved our workflow, including code reviews and roles to approve changes before they went live, which is important for both existing and new healthcare startups.<br/>
        The final step was **to get a security certification from a specialized third-party company following SOC2 standards**. To do this, they hired an expert to test the application and find any weak points. Most of the issues were because of Drupal 6, but we couldn't completely remove it because some core elements needed it. To get more certifications, we rewrote most of the project using Symfony, keeping Drupal 6 only for our client's needs like the admin panel and a few important features. Other people couldn't access Drupal 6 anymore.

        Once we made all the changes and ran our marketing campaigns, the project showed some impressive improvements:
        * The application used to go down unexpectedly at least once a month before we upgraded the infrastructure, but **it hasn't had any downtime** since the change.
        * The API calls are now processed **five times faster** than they were before.
        * We improved the quality of our code by using a new Agile-based workflow that includes development, quality assurance, and review stages with different roles. It used to take several months to make releases, but now we can do it **in just 2-3 weeks**.
        * Over the past year, the application **gained 15,000 new users**.
