Franchise task management for QSR operations
Managers create daily task templates for franchise networks; employees get mobile notifications via WebSockets. Migrated PHP socket server to Node.js, custom ORM on CodeIgniter, Simperium sync replaced, IAP and flexible templates added.
Client context
NDA task system for a major QSR franchise: admins template tasks; network managers customise and assign; staff complete on mobile with escalation and inventory hooks.
Challenge
PHP WebSocket server bottlenecked under mobile load; legacy sync via Simperium; needed franchise-grade flexibility for templates, shifts and inventory.
What we did
- Built CodeIgniter ORM and web UI (jQuery) for all entity types.
- Replaced PHP WebSocket layer with Node.js proxy — fewer DB round-trips, more connections.
- Migrated sync to in-house WebSocket server; added IAP and template hierarchy.
- Swift mobile app with realtime task notifications.
Process
- Entity model and admin web module.
- Socket migration and API hardening.
- Mobile sync rewrite and IAP.
- Four-month delivery window.
Result and impact
A highly configurable franchise operations hub; task completion improved ~17%, with sustained gains across the network.
